Welcome to Daisy Birthing Darlington
Antenatal and Baby Classes in Darlington
Hi my name is Yvonne and I would like to welcome you to Lazy Daisy Birthing Darlington! I actually discovered Lazy Daisy when a close friend joined the apprenticeship scheme and was drawn to it, mainly because I know first hand what it is like to experience quite challenging labours!
The biggest impact my own births had on me, was the need to talk to every one about how they had left me feeling, because unfortunately they did not take the route I initially imaged (mainly due to gestational diabetes). Ever since having my two children, I have reflected over and over about how birthing could be a more natural occurrence, as the medical aspects of my own labour really left me feeling that the journey had been taken out of my hands. I felt drawn to the stories on the Lazy Daisy site regarding 'easy birth' and was suprised to hear that even mums suffering from issues such as gestational diabetes like myself, could still utilise the techniques within this programme to achieve a great outcome!
This made me realise that even those mums who know they will have to experience a 'different' journey (perhaps due to medical reasons) deserve the right to complete holistic preparation - movement to help them in pregnancy, relaxation to help them prepare for their own birth and techniques to help them feel in control whatever the circumstance.
When I began training with Lazy Daisy immediately everything made sense! Active Birth had previously seemed like an unobtainable term to me - something someone else would have - but Daisy Birthing turns the preconceived idea of Active Birth on it's head. This isn't about wrapping your legs around your head, or doing an aerobics class during your labour. Daisy Birthing is 'relaxed active' birthing, so understanding how the body works, how contractions happen and using position, gravity and subtle movements to influence this. The biggest impact on me however has been the revelation of how fear can affect the process and I feel completely inspired now to ensure mums know how to embrace labour and move through the journey as nature intended.
Yvonne also works as a doula and therapist in the local area.

What can I expect from classes?
Daisy Birthing® has a unique take on birth preparation. We have taken the bits we love best from a range of more conventional techniques such as Pregnancy Yoga, Traditional Active Birthing, Birth Breathing Education, Birth Hypnosis and Birth Education and combined these into a 1hr 20minute all embracing class which allows mums to learn as they move. Daisy Birthing® is FEDANT approved and has helped more than 1500 mums to date (2010).
By delivering key birthing facts, alongside a range of gentle and carefully movements, physical metaphor exercises and relaxation/affirmation scripts (all set to our own beautiful labour music) we build muscle memory and help mums-to-be find intuitive techniques to help them enjoy a more comfortable birth experience.
Complete Learning Every Week
Each weekly session will guide you through 1hr 20minutes of pregnancy specific movement (even suitable for mums with SPD), breathing tuition, active birth mentoring, relaxations, birth metaphors and self hypnosis style relaxation scripts. All this for just £9 per week.
You can join from week 14 of your pregnancy (average time to start is around week 22) and stay with us right through to week 41 if you wish. Even though we run on a rolling 6 week class plan, every course brings out new education and new focus as each week and every mum brings a new dimension. 1st, 2nd and multiple timers welcome!
