About classes in London SW18 and SW19 (Wandsworth, Merton, Southfields, Earlsfield and Wimbledon)

London teacher and mum Emma can't wait to begin classes in the SW18 and SW19 areas.  Emma has two children of her own:

Alice was born by emergency c section as she was diagnosed as being breech whilst Emma was in labour and showing signs of being distressed.  Emma reflects "Whilst I was disappointed as I had had a fabulous pregnancy and was feeling ready to give birth, ultimately I was just pleased to meet my beautiful baby and accepting of the fact you can’t control everything in life.  I felt lucky to have been able to have experienced first stage labour as I think it helped my milk come in and gave me a degree of muscle memory when birthing my second baby Sam".Emma_Helbert_Profile_Merton

Sam was nearly 2 weeks late and Emma was in fact booked in for a planned c section as they did not want to induce her due to possible scar tissue from Alice’s birth.  However, luckily her 4th sweep worked and he was born naturally.  Emma says "My contractions started at 3pm and my waters broke soon afterwards.  I went to hospital at 6pm and was told I was only 2cm dilated.   40 minutes later I was fully dilated and at 7.20pm he was born!  Very fast, very intense, but very joyful."

So why Daisy Birthing® Emma?

"I find the process of pregnancy truly miraculous and the fact our bodies are designed so amazingly to bring new life into the world just incredible!  Pregnancy to me was one of the most joyful times of my life and to be working with ladies during their pregnancy journey will be a real honour.   As I have discovered through my training so far, Daisy Birthing® gives ladies a real understanding of what is happening to their bodies before and during birth which I believe is really empowering.  The classes offer such a holistic approach to birth preparation and the combination of movement, relaxation, breathing and relaxation techniques would have been the perfect approach for me and I am so looking forward to sharing this knowledge with the mums to be of SW18 and SW19".

Timetable and Pricing

The next 6 week courses start at Pro Physiotherapy, Earlsfield in early May and in Southfields in early June. These opening terms will retail at just £54 for the 6-week course (RRP £72), whilst Emma works towards her final FEDANT accreditation.  Rest assured all teachers on teaching practise have already successfully completed both written and practical examinations and hold insurance to £5,00,000.  Teaching Practise is the last imporant part of their qualification journey.

Why Daisy Birthing®

Emma really sees this as a course and a journey which can help ALL mums ..... whether single or multiple births, home birth, inducation or c-section .... and we absolutely agree.  We aim to help mums reclaim their birthing place and feel relaxed and in control, whatever the journey.

Leigh East, author of the book 'Caesarean Birth: A Positive Approach to Preparation and Recovery' also agrees,.  In a recent article where she examines whether traditional education actually prepares mums-to-be for changing outcomes and for positivity in ALL birth situations,  she writes

"I recently came across a relatively new antenatal organisation - Lazy Daisy®. They offer movement based pregnancy wellbeing and birth preparation class.  While they do not talking about interventions and birth management techniques, what is fantastic is that they focus on “strengthening the emotional mind” encouraging women to believe “what will be, will be”. Classes do not suggest women should roll over and accept whatever happens to them, rather they teach relaxation techniques focusing on calming the mind so that Mum can assess her birth as it progress and cope positively with the many changes which can occur.  Of course instrumentation or caesarean section may be the outcome but in viewing birth as a positive journey and focusing on the end goal Lazy Daisy report that 'even when birth has taken a different path to what they hoped, [women] continue to feel in control and so feel 100% positive about the journey. Many of our mums forget to even mention how the journey finishes (vaginal or caesarean) because they are so enthusiastic about describing how they were riding their waves initially.' "

So many of our mums do indeed achieve their 5 hour birth simply breathing through the waves .... others appear at the door of the delivery suite amazed to find they are 9cm dilated and didn't even realise .... many mutter throughout 'I believe them, birth can be wonderful and play out with ease' ..... and some do find the waves are bigger, larger, test them to their limit but they still feel confident and enjoy the exhilaration of the ride!  This is what Lazy Daisy® is all about!
