About Classes North Beds (BeDford, Woburn Sands)

Susie, a former midwife and qualified Nurse, as well as being a Mum, is passionate about supporting women in pregnancy and early parenthood, which is what inspired her to join the Daisy Birthing team. In her own words "I am an ex midwife who loved her job but had to leave and misses the amazing experience of supporting women and their partners through pregnancy and birth. I was missing working with women and never had the opportunity to help new Mums in the early months to achieve the parenting they want to.  Lazy Daisy is just what I was looking for to enable me to use my experience, work with mums and allow me to spend more time with my family".SusProfile

Susie teaches weekly in Bedford and the surrounding area, networking closely with neighbouring teachers Sylvia (who covers the remaining MK postcodes) and Teresa, who works on the Beds/Herts border.

Susie has now also added Daisy Baby classes for Mums and their babies in North Beds. Daisy Baby offers Mums the opportunity to actively bond with their babies through massage, yoga, and calming techniques. It is baby lead and supports 'in arms' time where ever and when ever it is needed. Mums also benefit from a postnatal movement program and relaxation time help support their physical and emotional health.  "I am delighted to be able to bring the next stage in 'Daisy' to the Mums who have been with me in antenatal classes and I am looking forward to welcoming Mums who have done other antenatal preparation and are now looking for something to do with their new baby"

Mehr our teacher for Central and West Reading and Kingston is passionate about confident birthing and committed to bringing our trade mark Daisy Birthing® programme to as many mums as possible.  Having re-evaluated her life as a professional auditor, following the birth of her child and a poignant journey along the way, Mehr felt she wanted to tune into her natural mothering instincts.  Whilst new to life as a birth professional, Mehr gained valuable pre-training experience by utilising the services of some of the most renowned birthing professionals such as Dr Yehudi Gordan and Gowri Motha during her own birthing experience.  We are delighted with such fantastic experiences behind her, that she chose Daisy Birthing as her launch pad for inspired others to birth with confidence!

Remember our trade mark 6 week course includes movement, breathing, active birthing education and birth hypnosis and was recently featured in Practical Parenting (Sept 2010) as being one of the cutest ways to chill out during pregnancy and labour!  Classes are so much more than just cute of course, offering real benefits in the delivery environment, by keeping adrenalin low!

Mehr_profile

We cannot think of a more inspirational advocate to take our message of positivity forward. Mehr touched us all deeply in training and we know she will touch many other mums2be  as her teaching journey develops.  We are excited at the prospect of Mehr taking our techniques to expectant mums in Pakistan in Spring 2011.

SO WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A TEACHER??

"Daisy Birthing® has been by far the most positive and comprehensive birthing preparation class I have attended and I feel so inspired by it that I want as many mums as possible to benefit from the Daisy Birthing® experience too.  It has not only helped me understand the science behind why some things didn't work out so well for me in my first birth but how to do everything possible in my second birth to ensure baby was facing the best way for an easier birth.  Lazy Daisy® can help change perceptions of birth, open up new avenues for mums who would like to deliver baby naturally but don't feel empowered to and provide a learning experience that works for all types of learning styles and all types of birth.  Best of all though, it was something I really enjoyed and a definite highlight in my week!"

SO WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A TEACHER??

"I had such positive birthing experiences that I find myself disappointed and therefore constantly striving to deliver the message that childbirth is and can be a positive experience, no matter what choices are made or what the individual situation is.Relaxation worked for me, and upon reading about Daisy Birthing® Classes it was clear to me that the role of a traditional antenatal teacher can sometimes be far too medicalised and not holistic enough. Although the medical background is of course beneficial, I believe that preparing a woman for childbirth is definitely about state of mind too, and therefore to give a woman the right tools to achieve a positive birth, the most important thing is relaxation and support. Lazy Daisy appears to fit into this perfectly."

why did you want to become a teacher?

"Mum of 1 to my own Daisy Baby I want to educate mums on the birthing process to they feel fully prepared for their birth journey. Daisy Birthing classes helped me to understand how to be in control of my own birth, feel confident to make my own decisions and achieve a positive natural birth.

I want mums to feel educated on the birthing process so they can enter into their own labour feeling relaxed, confident and focussed.  Birth should be an experience to look back on and feel proud of not a horror story we see all too often on TV. I want mums to be to feel prepared and inspired to gain their own positive experience.

Combined with a career in fitness I feel passionate about active birthing and believe anything can be achieved if you set your mind to it".

Combined with a career in fitness I feel passionate about active birthing and believe anything can be achieved if you set your mind to it".

DAISY BIRTHING

Following the success of our initial Cardiff classes, Laura Fergusson (mum of four and baby signing teacher) introduced new Daisy Birthing® classes to north and east Cardiff in November 2012 and has recently expanded her area, to include west Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.

As well as currently working as a TinyTalk baby signing teacher, Laura is also a breast feeding peer supporter and is really excited to be working now with mums in the antenatal period too.Profile picture 1

Laura explains "Since having my first baby at home in 2001, I have been passionate about the options and information available to pregnant women. Having attended more traditional ante-natal/parent craft courses and pregnancy yoga classes during my four pregnancies, I felt that something was missing in each, and was excited to discover Daisy Birthing®. This course compliments my own pregnancy and birth experiences and resonates with my own beliefs about how women can be taught to manage their own labours without fear of what is happening to them during childbirth.

I am thrilled to now be in the position to share my knowledge and experience of pregnancy and birth, through an accessible class that delivers a complete package of antenatal education, pregnancy support, birth preparation and relaxation."

Nicola Ruth, a former Daisy Birthing mum herself, will shortly be joining Laura as a Daisy Birthing teacher in Cardiff, running classes in The Copthorne Hotel and Cardiff Bay.  Nicola has a wealth of experience working with pregnant women as a Pregnancy Masseuse.

DAISY BABY
Laura will be completing Daisy Baby training in the summer and is looking forward to bringing Daisy Baby classes to Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan later this year.

About Classes in NG2, NG12 & NG13

Welcome to Kate Flint who will be teaching and co-ordinating Daisy Birthing® classes in Nottingham NG2,NG12 & NG13 . Kate is a mum of two, both of whom were born with relative ease. Kate attributes this to the fact that she was relaxed, used movement and gravity to help baby on its birthing journey and was confident in her body's ability to birth her babies. She says "There were times when I felt discomfort, but it was never unbearable. Having a very supportive husband always at my side was invaluable too".

Asked when she has chosen Daisy Birthing® she replies:-

"My desire to become an antenatal educator has grown out of my experiences as an expectant mother. With my first pregnancy I was desperate to find out more about birthing, but the thought of just an intensive one day class which was all my local midwives could offer just didn't appeal and even the antenatal course I did attend didn’t satisfy me. I wanted to know more about active birthing and more about how I could prepare myself (and my husband!) both physically and mentally for the big day. Not being able to find a reasonably priced class that covered all of this I started to do my own research, read up on birth hypnosis, and did antenatal yoga at home. It was time consuming and I missed having like minded ladies to share my thoughts and feelings with. But it all paid off on the day when I arrived at St Mary’s Birth Centre fully dilated and had my first son while on a birthing stool.Kate Flint Profile

Once the fuzz of having a new born started clearing I knew I wanted to help other expectant mothers to have a calm confident birth experience. It broke my heart every time I heard negative stories about labour and birth, especially when directed at expectant mothers! I knew it didn't have to be that way. I wasn't some super woman with a high pain threshold or extra wide pelvis!! I was just Mrs Average who managed to stay calm and be confident in her body's ability to birth a baby, which it then did. I know not all births are straightforward, but I am sure that even if mine hadn't been, all I'd learnt would have still meant I'd have come home with my new born having felt in control of everything that did happen. But I couldn't find an antenatal training course that covered all the areas that I felt helped me so much. Fast forward eighteen months and a very dear friend of mine announced that she's going to train for and start running Daisy Birthing® classes, which incorporate all the elements I so passionately believe in!" And so here she is, another baby, another positive birth and she’s finally fulfilling her dream to help other mums-to-be feel calm and confident about their births.

About Classes in Northwich Cheshire (West)

Welcome to Daisy Birthing® wonderful relaxed-active birth education here in the CW6, CW8, CW9 and WA6 postcode areas (Cheshire), brought to you by our lovely local mummy Sophia.   Sophia is compelled to help mums to be achieve confident and enjoyable birthing.  She has experienced three profound birth journeys of her own, the first which sadly resulted in the loss of her baby due to pre eclampsia.  She went on to experience an amazing journey with baby number 2 (astounding birth professionals with her resilience to enjoy a vaginal delivery, despite their belief she would require a c-section).  Baby number 3 created more hurdles, when this gorgeous little bundle arrived very early at just 30 weeks and weighing in at only 2lbs. This little bundle is now 7 years old and as Sophia describes 'her own little miracle'. Sophia_Profile

As well as being a mum herself, Sophia has been priviledged to act as birthing partner at three labours - all very different  (one vaginal delivery requiring assistance, one elective c-section and one very natural birth within an active birth centre) but all equally amazing,  Birth itself really is a miracle!

When asked what has drawn her to become a Daisy Birthing mentor, Sophia replies:-

"I remember what it felt like being pregnant for the first time and feeling lost and terrified. I found myself constantly looking to friends or relations who were much older for advice. Some of the advice I received left me baffled whilst some just frightened me.  Now having had babies of my own and witnessed births, I would love to be able to help other mums make sense of the various birthing issues they might consider uncomfortable, frightening or confusing by giving them a place to seek support, and answers. Having been through quite a roller coaster ride with my births, I would consider it an honour and privilege to be able to share my experience and in the process help mums make sense of the changes their bodies are going through, cope with the side effects of the changes and learn to be master of their birthing experience."

With the unique Daisy Birthing techniques behind her, we know Sophia won't just help mums make sense of the birth journey but will undoubtedly help them look forward to it, embrace it and LOVE it!

Classes in South Manchester, Lymm, Hale, Altrincham and Knutsford,

We are delighted to announce our Warrington team will be expanding, as  new teacher Lisa Nield will be furthering classes to mums on offer  in South Manchester, Lymm, Hale, Altrincham and Knutsford.

Lisa will be specifically working the WA13/14/15/16 postcode areas.

"Hi my name is Lisa and I would like to welcome you to Lazy Daisy Birthing in Lymm, Hale, Altrincham & Knutsford in Cheshire!

I have three children and have had an array of birthing experiences myself.  My first little boy was born in hospital with pain relief in a non-active birth environment on the bed.  I lacked in confidence and was pretty much ‘out of it’ throughout which always upsets me, as I now realise I missed the most invigorating experience of my life.  My second baby, a little girl, was born in the birthing pool at hospital.  I stayed active during labour and as soon as she arrived I knew what a difference being more in control of my body felt like.  When I fell pregnant with my third baby I really wanted to embrace my positive experience and attended pregnancy yoga and started studying pregnancy self-hypnosis. Lisa Nield 2

I joined a birth support group later on in my pregnancy as I was considering a home birth which is where I met two local Daisy teachers.  I was intrigued by what their classes had to offer and once by baby boy arrived within 3 hours in my planned home birth, I felt so empowered I just wanted to spread the word!

I got straight into researching how to become a Daisy teacher!  I’d only ever attended antenatal classes provided by the NHS so was really impressed to find that Daisy encompassed everything I believed in…the relaxation…remaining calm…looking forward to baby arriving…instilling confidence…active birth….and of course, educating yourself!

It was only afterwards when I reflected on my 3 births, what a difference feeling in control of my body made.  I feel that Daisy classes encompass all the techniques I’d learnt and more.  I also like the fact that the Daisy programme  can help ladies in whatever environment they choose to birth in and can help no matter  what ‘risk’ category they are classed as.

I am keen to pass on my confidence in birthing to mums-to-be  who may be feeling nervous or anxious, whether it’s through a previous traumatic experience or just because it’s their first time.  I want to help ladies understand how their body works, how contractions happen and use position, gravity and subtle movements to influence this.  Lazy Daisy Classes teach how to release fear to prevent its affect on the birthing process.  I feel completely inspired now to ensure mums know how to embrace labour and move through their journey as comfortably as possible"

Testimonials

April 2012 Stephanie harrison says:
Absolutely loved your Lazy Daisy classes Michelle :) Thank you so much for teaching me all the breathing techniques and helping me realise that I could have a lovely, calm birth experience where I was in control. Our son Riley William Harrison was born on 13th March at home in a birthing pool and other than the water, the only pain relief I used was the Lazy Daisy breathing techniques! I will be telling all my pregnant friends about you xxx

April 2012 Jessica Ruffler says:

Michelle's Daisy Birthing Classes are brilliant! Not only did they help me through my birth experience they helped me hugely in my pregnancy and with any fear issues leading up to the birth. I always found that I slept well after every class, the meditation section at the end of each class was lovely. I have recommended daisy birthing to my friends and will be back next time.. maybe its a bit too early to be saying next time already!! Grace is only 10 weeks old! You are brill Michelle - miss you! xx

April 2012 india reynolds says:
These classes taught me everything I needed to know about birth and without them I don't think I could have breathed Romany out with just two paracetamol. By having a copy of the same music we listened to in class I was able to practice my breathing and relaxing at home before and this really helped me to get into that relaxed frame of mind when in labour. Deffinatly would recommend to all pregnant ladies :) Thank you Michelle xxxx

Karen says:
Honestly these sessions are a must for any new mum-to-be. I gave birth to my daughter Holly in March and these classes really helped prepare me for what to expect during labour, and gave me the tools to stay relaxed and focused throughout the birth. Louise is a great teacher, and helped make the classes reassuring and lots of fun. We also did a couples class which was great – really relaxed and friendly. Thanks Louise

Lucy says:
Whilst I have been enjoying my pregnancy, whenever I thought about actually having to give birth, it would send me into panic mode and I could feel the emotions taking over. I've been to three classes now and the way my mind has changed is quite surprising. I am rubbish with pain and I'm a real wimp but right now, I am genuinely looking forward to the birth. I am feeling really confident about it all and excited to cope because I believe that I will be absolutely fine (which is a massive difference to how I felt three weeks ago). If nothing else, the classes are a great way to relax and take time away from everyday life to just focus on you and your bump. I find the classes informative and really enjoyable so will definitely be signing up for the next term. Almost forget to mention Louise! : ) She is the teacher and is excellent in my opinion. Very friendly and welcoming so I was quick to feel at ease in the class. It is definitely worth considering even if this isn't your first child as information and recommendations are ever changing. This is an enjoyable way to keep informed and have some 'me' time whilst also preparing yourself for an 'easy' birth

Lizzie says:
I absolutely loved attending Lazy Daisy sessions each Sunday. I actually really miss them and the lovely people who did the classes at the same time as me. Louise is brilliant and really helps to reassure you! It was also a great learning experience and I certainly used the techniques shown during my own labour. I can't wait to go back during my next pregnancy - best money spent in a long time!

Kelly says:

"I did 2 terms of Lazy Daisy classes with Louise Russell in Heswall and also attended her couples workshop.  Louise's classes were fantastic, I am jealous of the pregnant ladies starting their new term in January!  She is a very supportive mentor and both my husband and I felt we gained much more from her than we did from our 'official' antenatal classes.

Oliver was overdue and rather than a home water birth, I ended up being induced and having a hospital birth.  I contacted Louise the day before I was due to go to hospital as I was feeling rather nervous and she responded with a wonderfully positive e-mail giving me plenty of happy birth stories following an induction.  Although I wasn't able to put everything from the classes into practice due to the nature of my labour and birth, the things I did use were immensely helpful.  The midwives were commenting on how calm I was and how nice the atmosphere was in my room.  I think they also liked the Lazy Daisy music!

I am already looking forward to attending Louise's classes again if we are lucky enough to have a second baby!!"

profile on the daisy babyâ„¢ teacher jessica

Welcome to New Teacher Jessica, a former Daisy Birthing mum, who inbetween the birth of her two children, Harry and Liam, went back to university and studied Early Years Education 0-5.Jess Alex

In Jessicas own words "I really enjoyed learning all about child development and how to help children reach their milestones in their individual ways. I am now an Early Years Professional who was looking for a way to put my new knowledge to good use. I am also training to be a pilates instructor.

Combining baby massage, yoga and postnatal fitness in one class will provide parents with an amazing foundation for their baby’s growth as well as nurturing parent and child bonding. When I was a first time mother I was very confused about what I was doing and had read many different books for help and assistance, which sometimes only confused the matter. What I found the most helpful was advice and support from other mothers. As a Daisy Birthing mum I can see how the birthing course will flow directly into the baby class".

"I had such a positive birth experience.  Prior to my pregnancy I thought that everyone gave birth in hospital strapped to a bed.  I had no idea that there were different stages of labour!  I was luck enough to be able to afford a variety of classes and had the time for self education.  I realise not everyone can do this.  I strongly believe that if it is possible for me to have such a positive birth experience, then it is possible for so many other women and I want to help them achieve their birthing goals.  Daisy Birthing is such a fantastic and affordable way of women to educate themselves!"

Welcome to Truro

We are delighted to announce that Daisy Birthing classes are now available in Truro.  Becky is mum to two children and in her own words passionate about all things pregnancy and birth - so much so, she was recently accepted as a volunteer within the local maternity unit.

Becky is also a trained Breast Feeding peer support worker.Becky_Profile

Despite her 1st birth being just 4 hours in duration (with no pain relief), Becky recalls she felt less than prepared for the experience and came away feeling that although fairly straightforward, it could have been made more enjoyable and easier for her.  Becky recalls "My son was totally different. He was still late at 10 days but I wasn't anxious at all and had a home-birth planned. I had read many more books and really believed in myself that this was going to be an amazing experience. He was born after a 3.5 hour labour in the pool at home, weighing a whopping 10lb 12!! I felt very little pain really and felt totally in control of everything my body was capable of.   Again, I had no damage and felt amazing afterwards!"

WOW a 101b 12 baby - we very definitely think Becky is well placed to empathise with mums-to-be!

But why Daisy Birthing? Becky explains  " I am totally passionate about pregnancy and birth and have had a desire to work within this sector for a long time. I am forever hearing of womens horror stories of birth and truly believe that this can be changed with the right education.  I feel very lucky to have found something that I am passionate about.  There is a big gap in the market in this area of Cornwall as there are no antenatal classes at all. Daisy Birthing ticks every single box, perfect!"

WHAT THE MUMMIES THINK!

"Just to let you know that baby Kurtis arrived on 12th May, 8lb 3oz, 55 cm long! The labour went, in hindsight very well; the breathing helped loads in the first stage and mentally repeating 'My birth is easy' helped in the second stage. The music was very calming for a chilled first stage and I managed with my tens machine all the way through. Thank you for all of your tips- they really did make a difference to the build up to preparing for and giving birth." Jenny & Baby Kurtis, 2011

BUT WHAT MAKES US TRULY INCLUSIVE?

We remember that pregnancy and birth is about four trimesters not three, with our Daisy Baby class module being the ideal follow up to Daisy Birthing and we feel,  the most appropriate baby class for that 4th trimester (and those first precious weeks and months with your baby).  Vicky was blown away by our Baby module and feels every mum should understand the 'calming reflex' (yes an inbuilt calm button), why babies don't like laying on their backs in those early weeks and what mummies can do to help this!

WELCOME TO CHESTERFIELD, DERBYSHIRE!

Sam profileWelcome to Daisy Birthing® wonderful relaxed-active birth education here in Chesterfield Town and Chesterfield, brought to you by our lovely local mum and Daisy Birth mentor Samantha.  Samantha is buzzing about Daisy Birthing and from her own words we can see why:

" I  gave birth to my one and only child last year on 15th October 2010, a little boy. The labour, although VERY long ( a whopping 52ish hours of contractions!) but a straight forward vaginal water birth of which I come away totally unscathed of tears and grazes. The only methods of pain relief I used was the birthing pool, Gas and Air for 3 hours and positive thinking, something that I'm very proud of as I thought I was going to be a total nightmare and a wimp!  After just 6 hours of having Mason I was at home eating beans on toast… something that people don’t believe when I tell them.

Since having Mason and having such a great experience giving birth I have never got bored of telling people how wonderful that moment is of meeting your child for the 1sttime and being so proud that I did it the way that I wanted. In my area antenatal classes aren’t readily  available and the classes that are around are expensive which meant that a lot of my friends who have had babies never had the opportunity to  attend a class and the majority of them wish they had.  Daisy Birthing is really affordable and accessible to everyone which I think is really important. I believe that every mum-to-be should have the opportunity to  prepare herself (and partner) in the best way possible for the arrival of their precious baby and I would can't wait  to be apart of that. It must be so rewarding emotionally to know you’ve helped a mum-to-be have the birth she wanted… something every mum deserves."

WOW Sam, we totally agree - this is what Daisy Birthing is exactly about empowerment and accessibility for all, however they choose to birth.

antenatal CLASSES IN CULLOMPTON AND TIVERTON with sarah

SO WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A TEACHER?

"I have first-hand experience of how successful Daisy Birthing classes and the techniques they employ are.  After a long and stressful labour first time, Lazy Daisy classes were recommended to me by my mid wife. These classes provided me with a space and time to relax and be with my bump and they also empowered me; filling me with confidence and excitement at the prospect of the birth of my next child. I had a totally different birthing experience with my second child and I whole heartedly believe that this was because of the classes I attended and the techniques I learnt through them.

My husband was sceptical, seemed quite anxious and was not particularly confident as we approached the birth (mainly due to our traumatic first birth experience), however, Lazy Daisy classes helped me to stay positive and confident throughout and my husband was amazed at the difference. He really could not believe it.Sarah Lush

This experience has lead me to want to bring Lazy Daisy Birthing Classes to my area, they really are so beneficial and I would love to allow as many people as possible to experience the empowerment that I have, and to help them on their journey through pregnancy, birth and beyond."

ABOUT PREGNANCY AND BABY CLASSES IN EXETER AND TIVERTON

Janette is a mum of five children, so has plenty of positive birthing experience herself, which have led her to wish to support other women in their journey to being a mum as well as the early days with their baby. Janette Profile"From my own experiences, I believe that an active birth (as much as is possible for that woman and the situation) is incredibly beneficial for both the mother and baby, and not only speeds up the whole labour but also reduces the need for pain relief. But it is not only the body that is important in the birth of a child as the mind plays a vital part too. By not being afraid of labour but understanding the process and embracing it, I believe that women can have a more positive labour and I wish to help empower women to achieve this.
I feel that Lazy Daisy Birthing gives women the knowledge and techniques that will enable them to have a positive experience on the day and I wish to help women on this important journey to motherhood."

SO WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A TEACHER??

"I want to make a difference in the experiences of mothers who are about to embark on the most exciting adventure and experience they will ever have.

Libby liz RoweEach of my births were different, none awful but they got better the more experience I had, plus clear guidance and the right advice for my circumstance made the birth experience more positive and I can honestly say I was never scared, just excited and realistic.

The Daisy Birthing® model teaches and empowers mothers to take control of the experience and enables techniques and strategies to remember the experience as a positive one.  Research into early attachment clearly suggests that the baby's brain is almost downloaded to from the third trimester onwards from the mothers brain, this is thereforean ideal opportunity to shape the experience and ensure mothers have something positive to tell their children and others.  By promoting active birth and labour, it is again teaching mothers the importance of movement and control - which is reflected in developmental movement play at all stages of child development."

Antenatal and baby classes in Chelmsford with debbi

SO WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A TEACHER??

"I first taught antenatal classes in the late 1980s while working as a midwife in Portsmouth.  I thoroughly enjoyed them, the relationship that would build between myself and the mums to be during the course. I liked that I was helping to prepare them for what was coming although at that time I did not have children of my own, but had worked for five years on a labour ward.debbie henderson

I was thrilled to find Daisy Birthing, as I totally believe in and support the womans right to have a say in what happens to her body, and her baby.  I also believe that knowledge is power, and that by preparing the woman for what is coming, by helping promote general wellbeing throughout pregnancy and teaching techniques for managing labour, I can help the mum to be to take control of what happens to her during this special time.

I love that Daisy Birthing encompasses several disciplines, gentle exercises, relaxation, breathing techniques and elements of hypnosis for birthing, and is suitable for ALL pregnant women, even those with SPD, or having a planned Caesarean Section and am really look forward to sharing the journey with you"

"Hi, I'm Lacey, Colchesters new Lazy Daisy birthing teacher. I have an 8 month old daughter called Beatrice and I took part in 2 Daisy Birthing courses throughout my pregnancy. My main reasons for taking part in the classes were because of my fear of pain relief which i managed to Lacey Galeavoid completely in my labour. I feel this is completely down to the Daisy Birthing method giving me the much needed confidence i was lacking. I honestly believe that because I can do it, anyone can! The classes are so brilliant to have such precious bump time but also preparing you for the big day and I would love to be part of that with you."

Why Daisy Birthing®

We are sure you have already poured over the Daisy Birthing® pages on this site and marvelled at some of the mummy feedback - what a lovely birth story about baby Stewart (see our home page!)  However, if you are still in need of a gentle nudge, here are just 5 reasons to give Daisy Birthin®g a try:

  • Feel more confident and enjoy your pregnancy, with this great 'well being' programme
  • Learn hugely positive techniques to provide confidence and comfort in labour (your labour tool kit)
  • Enjoy this time with your bump and look forward to your big day without breaking the bank - one class, one low cost price, but a complete all embracing solution!
  • Experience how relaxation helps release anxiety and keeps birth hormones at an optimum
  • Experience how rhythmic movement becomes an essential part of relaxation and programming the pregnant body!
  • Suitable for ALL mums, whatever the journey!  Something Melissa is passionate about as mums preparing for an elective section need solid support and wellbeing too!

About Classes in Saffron Walden & Haverhill, Essex/Suffolk/Cambridgeshire border

Welcome to Lynnette Garstang, our Daisy Birthing® teacher in training for the Haverhill and Saffron Walden areas.  Lynnette is mum to one 2 year old son (born 2009 following IVF).

Lynnette describes her son's birth as a wonderful experience spread over 36 hours - from the first mild contraction to the last 8 hours of labour spent in the labour ward.  Using movement, the bath and TENS, Lynnette describes the entire journey (both at home and in hospital) as calm, relaxed and  with a feeling of her being in control!  Wonderful!

This was not Lynnette's first experience of birth however, having spent 13 years as a paramedic in Essex, with part of her training spent on the maternity ward and with many ladies in active labour in her ambulance!  As a paramedic Lynnette delivered 3 babies .... just goes to show sometimes they come quicker than you think!

When asked why she wishes to become an antenatal teacher with Daisy Birthing®, Lynnette replied "I had such a wonderful pregnancy and birth and I often find myself telling people about it.  I feel this was helped by my own preparation and positive attitude towards things.  I truly believe that all ladies during pregnancy and about to give birth should be able to feel comfortable and fully in control regardless of whether any amount of medical intervention is needed. Whilst in the ambulance service I spent time teaching and mentoring staff and the public and I really enjoy this.  I can't wait to combine this with my love of birth as I go out there and mentor mums-to-be!"

Timetable and Pricing

Classes will begin in Saffron Walden and Haverhill in Spring 2012 and Lynnette's opening term, as with all Daisy Birthing® teachers on teaching practise, will retail at just £40 for the 6 week course (RRP £54 per 6 weeks).

Rest assured all student teachers have already passed foundation practical and written exams (assessed by our Founder), following full practical training, and already hold PI/PL insurance to £5,000,000.  Their teaching practise is the final step in obtaining their FEDANT registration.

Why Daisy Birthing®

Just like Lynnette, we strongly believe all births can be wonderful if mum-to-be feels in control and as such we seek to empower!  Our tool kit will:-

  • Provide self help techniques for pregnancy, to relieve common ailments and help manage issues like SPD
  • Build birth confidence - an understanding of the physiology of labour and how to help your own body
  • Make 'self help' movements instinctive through repeated and rhythmic sequences, so that they simply play out on d-day
  • Show mums how they can still have a relaxed-active birth even if they are required to be on a hospital bed!

ABOUT ANTENATAL CLASSES IN cheltenham and Gloucester

Daisy Birthing® active birth, holistic antenatal education and pregnancy movement sessions will be launching in Autumn 2013 with mum of 1 Natalie.

Natalie will be soon be teaching the women of Cheltenham and Gloucester (with our pregnancy yoga inspired movements and classes) how to achieve calmer and more confident births through use of active birth positions, pregnancy yoga style movement, breathing and relaxation.

SO WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A TEACHER?

In Natalies's own words:

SO WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A TEACHER??

I have always had a keen interest in pregnancy, birth and babies and even more so since having two of my own.

I believe giving birth shouldn’t be a scary time and that every woman should have a relaxed, enjoyable birth experience which can be treasured and I cannot think of anything better than to help ladies achieve this.

I have chosen Lazy Daisy because of the way it gives mums the confidence they need to achieve a happy pregnancy and birth as well as support during the early months with baby.

SO WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A TEACHER?

"I can't wait to train as a Daisy Birthing teacher as I believe in the process of physiological birth.  Many more women could achieve a positive birth experience if they are given opportunity to learn to become aware of their own body, its strengths and its limitations.  I feel a positive birth experience is not limited by a 'natural birth' outcome but by a women being empowered enough to make choices that are right for them".

Class Timetable

About Classes in Portsmouth and Waterlooville PO6 and PO7

Sarah is a mum to two little boys, Seth (3) and Isaac (8 months).   She describes Seth's birth as relatively straightforward "although it involved a transfer from a midwife led unit to hospital". Her 2nd baby was born at home.  Over these two experiences, she really has gained an insight into varying birthing environments and can truly empathise with a range of situations!

Sarah reflects:-  "I liked the idea that I could experience labour and birth in a relaxed atmosphere and that this could help things progress more smoothly. My husband and I had attended traditional antenatal classes during my first pregnancy and so, in light of our decision to have a homebirth, we enrolled on a birth hypnosis course. This truly changed the way I thought about giving birth. It enabled me to have a relaxed and smooth labour, resulting in a waterbirth at home - an amazing experience.  I'm a bit of a sucker for birth programmes on TV but having watched the new series of One Born Every Minute I was really concerned about how labour and birth were being portrayed. I was shocked at the suggestion that it would always be incredibly painful and that if you've had one traumatic birth then there was no hope for a straightforward second birth. I feel really strongly that women should be taught relaxation techniques for labour, rather than being bombarded with information on pain relief and the insinuation that they have no option but to 'grin and bear it' ...."

Sarah is very excited about bringing Lazy Daisy® to mums in Portsmouth, as really feels it will help empower them and enable them to create their own amazing birth experience!

"My name is Teresa and I have four children aged 9, 5, 3 and 18 months (as at April 2011).

I think giving birth and bringing a life into the world is such a wonderful experience and would like to help others enjoy this and feel prepared rather than dread their labour.     I genuinely believe I would have benefited from taking these classes, particularly with my first baby Oliver who I had when I was just 20 (and despite readin all the books I could get my hands on, still felt quite unprepared) but equally through the others too.  I love that this programme is accessible for all mums whether 1st baby or 5th, whether planning home birth or knowing they have to have a c-section!   My experience of four differing labours gives me a great understanding of what other mothers will be going through.Teresa_Profile

ANTENATAL CLASSES AT ALBANS WITH LORNA

SO WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A TEACHER??

"I attended other antenatal classes but I loved the positive nature of Lazy Daisy combined with the movement element and excellent advice it provided.  Lazy Daisy allowed me to focus on what I wanted out of birth and I was able to use the techniques I learnt to help me remain calm during labour.  During my first pregnancy I was concerned by the number of horror stories people shared with me about birth and I found Lazy Daisy was a real antidote to that!  I feel it is so important to share positive birth messages with other mothers to be. Lazy Daisy empowered me to have a calm and controlled birth experience and my passion for this led me to consider training as a Daisy Birthing mentor".

CLASS TIMETABLE

Class details will appear here soon but to pre-register you interest please contact lorna-brown@lazydaisybirthing.co.uk or call her on 07903 188 054

Like all of our teachers on teaching practise, the opening term will run at just £40 per 6 week block (RRP £54) whilst she completes her student practise and her final FEDANT registration. Rest assured all student teachers on teaching practise have already undertaken and achieved pass marks in both written and practical examinations and are insured to £5,000,000 PI/PL.

With Emma Smith

Welcome to Daisy Birthing® wonderful relaxed-active birth education here in Herts, brought to you by our lovely mum of two and Daisy Birth mentor Emma.  Emma herself is a Daisy Birther® having attended 15 weeks of classes during her 2nd pregnancy and can't wait to work with local mums to be, to help them understand our relaxed active birth education.

In Emma's own words "Hi I'm Emma, I am Daisy Birthing teacher in Stevenage and knebworth and I have 2 beautiful Children (3 including my Husband) Emily aged 4 and Molly aged 1 (Nov2012)

I found Lazy Daisy through attending classes myself with Teresa (Sector manager Herts, Beds, Bucks and North London)Emma Richardson

After developing a life threatening condition at the end of my pregnancy with my first child, I had a very difficult birth and recovery. When I became pregnant with my second child, I was Anxious and felt the need to be more prepared, I researched many options in pre-natal classes and read many books. When I came across Daisy Birthing classes I knew it was perfect for me. I attended 15 weeks of classes with Teresa, I enjoyed the yoga inspired movements and the relaxation / self hypnosis they really helped me combat the anxiety, using the techniques I learnt in class and listening to the CD at home enabled me to drive away those fears. I had an Inducted second birth and the breathing techniques saw me through a very long labour, I really believe attending classes helped increase my bond with my baby.

I am passionate about active birthing and supporting women in there pregnancy, I really want women to experience a positive birthing experience and I believe with the daisy birthing teqniques this is possible".

Welcome to Jersey

Classes will begin on the island of Jersey in Spring 2012, just over 12 months after Jersey based Daisy Birthing® teacher Katie gave birth to her own little boy Archie.  Katie was passionate about relaxation for birth and practised birth hypnosis during her own pregnancy, but when Archie turned posterior in labour, she felt she'd run out of tools to use and subsequently researched how an understanding of active birth and gentle movement could have helped her stay in control .... that's when she found Lazy Daisy®

In her words "From my own experiences I know how terrified I was about giving birth, until I learned more about childbirth and how the body works.  I believe that the hypnosis and breathing techniques I learned really helped me in labour but I also believe that had I had the opportunity to attend Daisy Birthing® classes that I would have been taught active skills which may have enabled me to turn my baby and to give birth to him without the aid of ventouse.  I believe Jersey is lacking sufficient choice and I would like to help women to be able to make the decision to have beautiful happy births".

We agree Katie, every birth should feel a happy experience, however the journey ... we hope our classes help mums-to-be feel empowered and happy!

Timetable

Classes will begin in Spring 2012.  For details of opening terms please email katie@lazydaisybirthing.co.uk

About Classes in Canterbury, Faversham, Whitstable & Herne Bay

We are so excited to welcome yet another Kent Daisy Birthing and Daisy Baby Mentor to the team - Carla!  She is passionate about birth, has two young children and a background of nursery nursing, and will be delivering our classes and workshops from June/July 2011 onwards.Carla_Profile

Why Daisy Birthing and Daisy Baby

Quite simply why not!! But if you do need reasons, even after reading the fab birth stories and benefits on our site, please remember:

  • We are all inclusive, linking movement to breath, breath to relaxation and birth educaiton to 'doing' - move to improve
  • We cost just £9 per week (huge value when some hypnosis based programmes retail at £50 plus)
  • We are suitable for ALL mums even those with SPD and Pelvic Pain AND can really provide benefits to those mums who know they have to have an elective C-Section too.  Every birth should be a good birth!
  • Our techniques can be used even if you have to be monitored for part of your labour - micro is the key!
  • We do not expect you to learn set routines for birth as every mum is individual and needs something subtely different - rather we make sure you have an inherent understanding of how gravity, micro movement and 'reclaiming birth space' benefits you during pregnancy and during labour
  • We can provide 'no nonsense' dad friendly sessions to support the package you are receiving as mum to be
  • We can help common pregnancy ailments like:  back pain, rib pain, heartburn, carpel tunnel .... you name it!
  • We ensure you deal with cervical congestion during pregnancy so that 10cm dilated really is 10cm dilated!
  • We release the psycological muscles in your body so you can really relax into labour
  • We help you feel great in pregnancy and great about birth
  • Postbirth, we help you feel great about parenting and provide forth trimester classes like no other (yes your baby really does come with a 'calming' button - seriously!), where all mums, parening styles, feeding choices, nappy choices, sleep beliefs are respected!
  • Our Baby classes turn the idea of conventional baby massage and baby yoga on its head!  What are we - Active Bonding - a lyrical journey, set to a beautiful soundtrack, all with the intention of calming, soothing and aiding development!

Daisy Babyâ„¢ Forth Trimester Baby Calming and Bonding Classes are now also available

Remember, we are one of the only baby programmes to truly meet the needs of baby's (and mum's) first three months. Our programme is unique in that:-

  • We support the primitive reflexes and gently integrate the startle reflex
  • We aim to help you switch on baby's calming button
  • Soothing movements help to close your abs and to aid baby, as they gently uncurl from foetal tuck
  • Lots of rocking and in-arms time, promotes a healthy 'vestibular' system for baby ... meaning they develop their sense of gravity and where they are in space!
  • White noise and gentle wind chimes help babies feel calm and relaxed in class
  • Lots of dance, cuddle time and baby rocking means you can participate and benefit, even when baby doesn't want to lay still for a massage!

antenatal classes in Dartford with iona

SO WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME A TEACHER??

"It made me wonder, where do you find help with your questions? I went to the antenatal classes provided by my local hospital. These were great at explaining different types of pain relief and even showed us the equipment used, but didn't cover any breathing techniques (which I was looking forward to);  I felt completely lost on what to expect and how to prepare myself.  So I religiously watched the first series of One Born Every Minute hoping to understand it better and pick up tips to help along the way!  I had planned a water birth with gas and air and I had my heart set on it. Six weeks before I was due my mum passed away and the upset caused my blood pressure to rise however. I was then given a piece of advice by a family member which completely changed my expectations and de-stressed me in a way. I was told to have a plan A, a plan B and a plan C to Z in case anything unexpected happens. I was so grateful for that as I didn't panic when I was overdue and taken in with pre-eclampsia."

Class Timetable and Pricing

Iona's classes are now up and running and are prced at just £40 per 6 weeks (RRP £54) whilst she completes her teaching practise, for her final FEDANT registration.  Rest assured, all of our teachers on teaching pracitse have already passed stringent written and practical examinations (in accordance with the format submitted to FEDANT) and hold PI insurance to £5,000,000.

About Classes in Sevenoaks, Tonbridge and Westerham

Gemma is a mum of two little boys, living in the Sevenoaks area.  She originally discovered Lazy Daisy® around 6 years ago when she was living in Ipswich and in fact attended classes with our founder Julie Long and also had Julie present at her birth.

She was hooked on the Daisy ethos and so keen to teach but of course opportunities in Suffolk were limited.Gemma Eden

So on moving to Sevenoaks and finding that there wasn't a Daisy Birthing® teacher there, Gemma jumped at the chance!

In Gemma's own words "I want to become a Daisy Birthing® teacher because I believe in what the brand is trying to achieve. I felt really empowered by my second birth and I feel lucky that I was able to have this experience. I think that a positive labour is an important part of being a woman. If I can help other women to have a positive experience then I would get a huge amount of satisfaction from this. As I took the Daisy Birthing® classes I feel very loyal to Daisy Birthing and I would never have considered training with anyone else."

Timetable and Classes

Gemma runs Daisy Birthnig classes in Sevenoaks on Mondays at 7:15pm at Sevenoaks Community Centre and in Tonbridge at Tonbridge School Centre on Wednesday nights at 6:30pm. Daisy Baby classes run Fridays 10am at Sevenoaks Community Centre. Contact 07964848000 or email gemma-eden-green@lazydaisybirthing.co.uk

Why Lazy Daisy?

Sessions are all about empowerment and creating positivity - whatever journey you are planning!  Remember we

  • Move to improve (this isn't a gym class - we undertstand the importance of knowing when to move and when to rest)
  • Move to learn - by wiring key birthing moves to muscle memory so that on due day they simply happen and you relax into birth
  • Move to feel great - raising happy hormones, aiding your pregnant body and your pregnant back, aiding baby's position and helping you to bond
  • Move to birth more easily - the key is learning how to open without having to take your legs wide apart (so even mums with SPD can benefit!)

About classes in Sittingbourne and Maidstone, Kent

We are delighted to introduce mum of one (soon to be mum of two) Lisa, who will be teaching in the ME9-12 and ME14-16 postcode areas.

Lisa gave birth to her 1st child via C-Section due to extreme SPD but is very much hoping to experience a VBAC this time around.  She has been feverently researching birthing methods over the past few months, including a thorough review of her own antenatal notes with her midwife and believes with a passion, in the role of relaxation and release for a positive birth outcome.Lisa Fulton

Lisa is currently attending Daisy Birthing® classes with Carla our Canterbury teacher, and feels inspired by the way in which Carla gently encourages mums to feel positive about the birth experience, reassuring them this can be natural and beautiful and that our bodies are designed to birth "it is a case of preparing the mind to help and not hinder the body".

Further more Lisa reflects on how she has felt judged in the past for having a section with her 1st baby (being told she is 'not a woman') and feels so strongly about our 'all inclusive' ethos - every birth is a valid and beautiful birth and every journey deserves good preparation and tools which can be used to make the experience special!

Classes and Timetable

Classes will begin at The Oast Osteopathy in Sittingbourne from Sunday 4 November. If you would like to pre register (from experience we know spaces fill fast) email lisa@lazydaisybirthing.co.uk. Due before Lisa's classes start .... she may be able to refer you to an intensive workshop in Bromley.

Lisas opening term will retail at just £40 per 6 week block, whilst she completes her teaching practise to obtain her final FEDANT accreditation - like all of our student teachers, Lisa will already have successfully passed extensive written and practical examinations and will be insured to £5,000,000.

Why Daisy Birthing®

Everything Lisa has said resonates so much with us.

  • Mums with SPD should be able to prepare and enjoy preparation and learn how to open without taking their knees apart
  • Mums preparing for a consultant led birth should feel ready to adapt and embrace change and be able to feel positive however birth plays out
  • Mums should be taught tools which can still help during a variety of journeys
  • Active birth is about tilt, subtle movement, gravity - reclaiming the birth space, even if this is a bed and even if you are hindered by SPD!
  • Plus of course this is a vital time to relax and to learn the affects of the body over the mind!

testimonials

Words can't really express how grateful I am that I came to your lessons. I only attended a few at the end of my pregnancy but know that I could not have got through my labour without your help!

Firstly the breathing in for 4 and out for 8 was something I practised lots beforehand because I had almost continuous braxton hicks sometimes!

When the real contractions came I found despite wanting to tense up and resist, these breaths really helped me to stay relaxed and reminded me to stay upright, forward, open and best of all positive! I believed I could do it! ( until close to the end when I was convinced I really couldn't).

I had the tens the gas and air and the breathing techniques which kept me concentrating and distracted from the pain. I used the escalator breath when things got more intense which really helped. I didn't use the different positions much as I found a position I liked and refused to move.(standing up leaning forward on the bed) when I felt my legs might give way underneath me I climbed onto the bed on all fours for the pushing and this was over in under half an hour! I changed the ouuuutttttt when pushing to GET OooUTTT!!!! But it did the trick!

I would recommend these classes to all pregnant women whether its their first second or even tenth pregnancy! This was my second birth experience and was a million times better than my first!

I know these techniques played a major role in this and my husband was impressed by how much more in control I was this time.

In the week after having Ralph I was unfortunately very unwell and continued to use the breathing to get through the pain and to keep me calm! Brilliant!

antenatal classes in manchester with tara

so why did you want to become a teacer?

"I attended some other class providers when I was pregnant but I felt that none of them covered active birth or breathing techniques in any real detail

When I had to be induced a little early, I remember wishing I’d had the opportunity to actually practise more on how to help my body cope with what was happening – reading and practising are two very different things!

Even though I had a stressful pregnancy and labour I did enjoy it (so much so I can’t wait to go through it again in the future), but it did make me realise how important it is to try and help your body be as prepared as possible for giving birth.

There are lots of tools and classes available to help prepare you for what to expect when you’re pregnant but little on how to actually have your baby.  I’m hoping to fill that gap in Manchester by teaching Daisy Birthing’s movement, relaxation and breathing techniques and at the same time doing something I know I will love.

I can’t wait to use my pregnancy and labour experiences to help other mums-to-be feel confident with their bodies and its ability to cope with the ups and sometimes downs of pregnancy, empowering them to confidently try and have the birth they want, the way they want it, in whatever environment they want for labour – whether this is their first pregnancy or their fifth."

lazy DAisY BIrthing Active birth and baby CLASSEs

Jo, our Lewes teacher, discovered Daisy Birthing® whilst pregnant with her 2nd child when she attended classes in nearby Brighton. She was so impressed with the techniques and education from Lazy Daisy that soon after her baby was born she decided to train as a teacher herself!

"I'm passionate about natural birthing, and believe every woman has the right to feel empowered by their birthing experience. I loved taking Daisy Birthing classes and know first-hand how helpful they can be - even second time round - to relax during pregnancy and prepare for birth. Having experienced a difficult and traumatic birth the first time around, my Daisy birth was absolutely amazing. I'm now officially a birth junkie, and feel so lucky to be able to help other women enjoy their labours and births." Jo Gatford

Jo will also be offering couples workshops from late summer, and Daisy Babyâ„¢  classes in autumn 2012. She is also training to become a mother supporter with the Association of Breastfeeding Women.

Maybe you are keen to learn movements and positions which will help your body birth more quickly and easily!

Perhaps you know you will need a little extra help in labour and are looking to gain natural skills to support you through this - lots of the ladies attending our classes know they will have to have a more closely watched birth but still find huge value in the tools we offer.

ABOUT CLASSES IN Livingston

Carli 427x640Daisy Birthing classes are now available in Livingston, Bathgate and Surrounding area, with Carli, a mum of 2 (the youngest being just 6 months during Carli's training).
Carli felt that during her own pregnancies there was a lack of classes in her area. Although Carli's births were similar physically, they brought her very different experiences psychologically. Carli says:
"I was far more in control with my 2nd birth using breathing techniques etc. I see Lazy Daisy as an opportunity to help other women have the birth experience they want and help them feel in more control of their labours.....Daisy birthing classes are different because unlike many other classes including the NHS, they run for a longer period of time, with more focus on techniques to help labour instead of the more fact based approach offered by others. It is my experience that some women leave antenatal classes feeling more worried than before they arrived and many 2nd/3rd time mums don't bother because they feel they've heard it all before, and it's great to know that Daisy Birthing is great for all mummies, and can ease pregnancy and birth no matter what your plans or previous experience may be".

PREGNANCY CLASSES

Classes launched in Livingston in August, with the opening term priced at just £40 (RRP £54) for the six week course, whilst Carli completes her teaching practise.

TIMETABLE

Classes are now available in Livingston & Bathgate, full details coming soon.

about classes in harrow and pinner

SO WHY Did you want to become a teacher?

In Beth's own words:

Daisy Birthing is just what I was looking for when I was pregnant with my daughter, but there were no classes in my area. I screamed my way through my first labour and was determined that the next one would be a quiet, calm and relaxed birth. I focussed on breathing and relaxation techniques and achieved my aim!beth

Having spent more than 10 years working in health assessment and exercise physiology I am used to explaining medical terminology in layman’s terms and enjoy helping people understand their bodies and health. Once you understand the processes you can make your own well informed decisions.

Lazy Daisy classes encompass movement, breathing, and relaxation. I am excited to pass the techniques on to more ladies as all are so important in pregnancy, labour and for recovery.  I love talking about pregnancy and birth and find it fascinating so Im looking forward to learning more and being able to share my knowledge. Being pregnant is such a special time and giving birth the most amazing experience and these classes will help you get the most from this most incredible part of your life. I believe that understanding what your body is doing is key to a good labour experience and helps you deal with and respond positively to whatever happens during your babys birth.

WHY DAISY BIRTHING

If you are a mum-to-be who likes the idea of pregnancy yoga but worry you are not stretchy enough; if you are drawn to hypnosis for birth but want to remain mobile during your labour; if you love the idea of an active birth but have never squatted in your life, then Lazy Daisy® and our unique Daisy Birthing method could well be the ideal pregnancy and birth preparation class for you!

If you want to feel confident and comfortable throughout your pregnancy and fit for birth both physically and emotionally, we offer an ideal pregnancy and birth preparation and antenatal class!
